Magic Cookie Bars Recipe

One of my favorite desserts is magic bars. They just have such perfect flavor combinations with the coconut, chocolate and buttery crust. This version of Magic Cookie Bars has a twist though! It’s slightly nuttier than your average magic bars because instead of using just walnuts, I use walnuts and macadamia nuts. Also, the crust is pretty unorthodox. Instead of your typical graham cracker crust, I combine baked potato chips and butter cookies for a sweet and salty crust that compliments the other layers like no other magic bar you’ve had.

Ingredients:

-1/2 cup melted butter

-1/2 cup macadamia nuts

-1/2 cup walnuts

-1 heaping cup of crushed butter cookies (I used royal danish brand)

-1/2 heaping cup baked potato chips

-1 cup condensed milk (1/2 cup for the middle layer and 1/2 cup on top)

-1 cup chocolate chips

-1 cup butterscotch chips

-1 cup flaked coconut

Directions:

1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prep a 13×9 tray by lightly spraying it with cooking spray.

2.) Mix the 1 cup crushed butter cookies together with the 1/2 cup crushed baked  potato chips. Add the 1/2 cup melted butter to the dry mixture. Once everything is well incorporated, spread it out into the 13×9 greased tray. The texture will be a bit strange but its fine. You are going to bake it in the end so it will crisp up.

3.) Pour 1/2 cup of the sweetened condensed milk and evenly spread it out on the crust.

4.) Crush the walnuts and macadamia nuts and mix them together. Pour this nut mixture into the tray.

5.) Pour the 1 cup of coconut flakes into the tray. Make sure you are evenly distributing every layer as you go.

6.) Next, evenly distribute the 1 cup of chocolate chips.

7.) Top it all off with the remaining 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk and spread it all out evenly.

8.) Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.

NOTE 1: You can sub out whatever nuts/salty & sweet combinations you’d like for the crust. Let me know what concoctions you use and how they turned out!

NOTE 2: This dessert is delicious on its own but a cup of coffee or milk is the perfect pairing. Enjoy!

  3. Fantastic blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any ideas? Thanks!
